Wow, nearly ten years have gone by since the last post on this decrepit website. All that fanfare about the Dev server sticking around, and here it sits with its websites largely unloved. Such a depressing way to live, eh?
This server used to be a thriving playground home to all sorts of great projects of varying complexity. Nowadays, it sits the corner in a teeny tiny little host, humming along while minding its own business while occasionally getting fed various software updates. Merely a shadow of its former self, for lack of a better turn of phrase. Never mind you, this server doesn’t go hungry, as it gets fed fresh software updates on a regular basis, it just doesn’t quite get the exercise it used to get.
Local compute and storage capacity have both greatly increased since this server was initially given its means; however, this growth has also allowed for new projects to be spun and piloted on their own, thus further diminishing a need for an aggregate ‘Dev’ server (traditionally, don’t put all your eggs in one basket, right?). Granted, there are still some software projects that this little guy plays with as mentioned before, but they don’t quite play the same role as tech and needs have both marched on.
So what will come of this little server? Status quo, probably. Admittedly, as one of the only Ubuntu servers in the environment, it will likely still remain a pilot system for any updates and changes that are set to go in place for the “partner” system. In addition to this, it’ll likely also serve as a little playground for any close comrades that might want or need it.
So is everyone up for another ten years of status quo? Most likely. Will this little server still be kicking after those ten years to revel in (what could be) the melancholy? Only time will tell.
