A previous post (seen below) that was made a while ago, indicated that the Dev server (this server) was only going to be back online temporarily to allow for TeamSpeak testing. While the TeamSpeak testing has been completed (and the project relatively abandoned because of a bug in the daemon causing unexplained spikes in resource usage with no resolution from the vendor), the server has remained online.

Why, you ask?

The Dev server is now running an extended pilot for a Jabber-based chat service, and is expected to remain online beyond the end of the pilot. The Dev server is also being used as a testing environment for new versions of system software and web apps (such as WordPress) to allow any glitches to be sorted out before pushing the updates to production servers, in order to avoid extended downtime.

TL;DR: The Dev server is here to stay for a while. Yay!
